Hamilton Deck & Pergola Staining

A beautiful backyard is just as important as the interior of the home. Keeping your wood protected and treated.

Staining a deck and pergola can help to protect the wood from weather damage and give it a fresh new look. Here are the steps for staining a deck and pergola:

Prep the area: Clear the deck and pergola of any furniture, plants, or other items. Sweep away any debris or dirt from the surface of the wood. Cover any nearby plants or surfaces that you don't want to get stained with plastic sheeting.

Clean the wood: Use a deck cleaner or a mixture of water and mild detergent to clean the wood surface. Scrub the surface with a stiff-bristled brush or power washer to remove any dirt or stains. Rinse the surface thoroughly with a hose or pressure washer and let it dry completely.

Sand the wood: Sand the surface of the wood with a medium-grit sandpaper to remove any rough spots or splinters. If your deck or pergola has been previously stained, use a fine-grit sandpaper to remove any loose or flaking stain.

Apply the stain: Using a paintbrush or a roller to apply the stain to the wood. We use the wet on wet method to ensure the stain is applied evenly and properly.

Allow to dry: Let the stain dry completely before using the deck or pergola. This can take anywhere from a few hours to a few days, depending on the weather conditions.
